The Botanical Gardens Café/ Curator’s House Restaurant and Tea Rooms

When the refurbishment work on the Botanical Gardens was finished in 2005 the new café, adjacent to the Gatehouse entrance, was opened.  Look for the etching on the glasswork of  the conservatory and the stained glass window near the entrance that was designed by our illustrator Kathryn Herold. A poem on the wall includes the words ‘Shining Eyes’. This was included in our book, with the Little Urban Fox believing it referred to his brother Stumpy’s eyes.

The Riddle Trail

The Riddle Trail was created for the Sheffield Botanical Gardens by poet Berlie Doherty.

The series of riddles consists of eight pieces of artwork, starting and finishing at the Gatehouse. The names of the artists are:

Bryan Frisby, Sue Jenner: Timber bench
Nick Hunter: Carving on bench
Tracey Hayes: Ceramic leaves
Celia Kilner: Carved stone lettering
David Mayne: Bear sculpture
Jez Thompson: Glass sculpture
Corale Turpin: Mosaic
